Astral Projection in Metaphysical Movies

Several Hollywood movies incorporated astral projection and metaphysical concepts. Sucker Punch, Source Code, Insidious, I am Number Four, and The Adjustment Bureau latch onto the metaphysical concept. Sucker Punch, Source Code, and Insidious tap into astral projection theme. A psychic once conveyed to me the power of the metaphysics concept as an opportunity to open doors in Hollywood. Will astral projection and metaphysical movies emerge as the next high concept?

Metaphysical movies go beyond physical to convey a higher sense of truth. The character usually uses some sort of metaphysical power to encounter a problem. In Sucker Punch, the main character enters a fantasy world through astral projection. She leaves her dancing body in the astral world to astral project into another fantasy populated with monsters and dragons. The writer and director took a story about a mental institute, and then transformed it into a fantasy to defeat evil through mind power. Babydoll employed mind power to make sense of the pain. In essence, the astral projection theme removed the characters from two worlds to demonstrate one has the power to escape pain.

Source Code enabled a military solider to enter the mind of another man. Colter Stevens, a military pilot, astral projected into another the mind of a deceased man to witness the last 8 minutes leading up to an explosion. While both men are already physically dead, the soldier is kept alive on life support to astral project into an astral world. Hence, one dead character can enter the mind of another dead person to experience the last 8 minutes preceding a death. Astral projection is about leaving the body to astral travel into an astral world. Gifted astral travelers have total control of their subconscious to function within a fantasy world through having an out-of-body experience.

In a metaphysical sense, I am Number Four shows that a powerful Alien teenager can make the transition from out of this world into a high school. The protagonist, John, falls for a girl who has no clue he is not from Earth. The mystery resolves around the reason he chooses to reside on Earth. The metaphysical theme explores the unexplained, aliens, powers, and even the mystery of life as representing a higher sense of truth.

The Adjustment Bureau adopts a metaphysical theme. Several characters are given the powers to control the direction of life. These angel-like entities must fill the shoes of agents fitting a government agency model. However, the agents possess extraordinary powers, enabling them to change the course of destiny as well as to influence fate's design. In controlling time and space, the movie is consistent with exploring the metaphysical element of the unexplained. Metaphysical and astral projection concepts add depth to movies. As you can see, Hollywood is buying into the metaphysical concepts to capture a new age audience fascinated with the unexplained. Thanks for reading.
